something along the lines of:

1. Monitor is going bad 2. Video card is.. a. loose/or partially out of it's slot b. cooling fan on the card is dead/dying c. the card is dying how could a monitor go bad??? i will do all of these and thx guys u really made my day. :D
Just like anything else. Stuff breaks. In the case of the monitor, the tube, the flyback transformer, power supply, or the main PCB.

It's more than likely the cable in the back of the monior that connects the VGA.

This happened to me. I checked the monitors on the other computers in my house. It worked. Then I tried another monitor on my computer, and it didnt work. So i knew it was the video card.
After cleaning out my computer and turning it on again it still didn't work
Then I looked at it, and one of the capacitators had "blown up/puffed up" which probably stopped it from working.
Then made a stop at an electronics store and got the best bet for what I was willing to spend. nVidia GeForce 6600 GT AGP
research this shit alot before you decide what's best for your system
(ie: AGP vs PCI-E, what you have now, prices)

I like my "MultiSync LCD1765" Monitor
It's LCD, meaning less radiation so your eyes don't melt.
but I can only get 60fps on it..

I have a Dell 1800FP LCD(can't bitch too much, I got it for free). What Kicked is talking about is an electronic component called a capacitior. WHat it does is store electricity. What they look like is tiny cans on your circuit board. When they go bad they start to expand(puff out, and leak), and sometimes explode (big bang and lots of smoke).
