 Mike Portnoy leaves Dream Theater.
http://www.facebook.com/notes/mike-port ... 2372974878http://www.metalsucks.net/2010/09/08/mi ... m-theater/This makes me incredibly sad and confounded... I really hope that this doesn't mean the end for Dream Theater. Mike Portnoy was so important to their signature sound.

That's like Claudio Sanchez leaving Coheed & Cambria only with 20 years longer to develop legend status...and then losing the legend.

Re: Mike Portnoy leaves Dream Theater.
Funny you say avenged sevenfold. I saw them at the Rockstar Uproar festival. They weren't even headlining, Disturbed was. They kicked F*CKING ASS SO HARD. Their set was better than Disturbed's set, IMHO. And WHO is A7X's drummer? None other than Mike F*CKING Portnoy (for the time being, at least). I didn't know this prior to seeing them. I nearly shat and bricked in my F*CKING pants at the same time.

Re: Mike Portnoy leaves Dream Theater.
I have no clue what to say. Dream Theater has been my favorite band since I discovered them six years ago while my son was in critical care hanging on to his life. It was a really devastating time for me, and Dream Theater really helped me get through those extremely tough times while I spent six months of my life in Miami with my son in ICU. It hits me a little harder than most people I guess because of these things that attached me to them. Unlike any other band, it seemed to me that Dream Theater was able to change every aspect of themselves and still sound like themselves. I don't know any other band in the world who can do that. I just really have no idea what to say. I think a lot of fans are going to hate Mike for what he did, even if it was just for the sake of being happy. I hate to say it, but even I'm pissed off at the fact that he's left. I really hate Portnoy right now, because now we no longer have the best bassist, keyboardist, drummer, and guitarist known to man in one band. No one can fill his shoes. F*CK you, Mike, for leaving.

Re: Mike Portnoy leaves Dream Theater.
Acid, I didn't know that Dream Theater meant that much to you. That makes them even more special to me that someone holds them that dearly. I have to admit that I've been struggling with my feelings on Mike lately since I found this out, and I also have to admit that I'm, also, pretty angry with him that he put his personal feelings over the fan's desires. Dream Theater was one the most technically proficient band known to man because, as you said, it had the best musicians in their respectable fields all in one band. They honestly and undeniably changed music forever. I mean, they've been together for 25 years and even though they subtly segued through different styles over that quarter-century, they still maintained their signature sound, just like you said. I hope that Mike reconsiders his very important role in the band and I also hope he comes back to record new material with them, because without Portnoy, Dream Theater isn't Dream Theater.

F*CK, I remember that day like I remember 9/11. I didn't know then how much of an impact he'd have on me later in life.

Re: Mike Portnoy leaves Dream Theater.
Mike is probably my favorite dummer, next to Phil Collins, Vinnie Colaiuta and Bill Bruford.... but I still think that Mike is an asshole for leaving one of the best musical experiences EVER.

Those who don't know this album should burn... there are actually 2 albums from LTE.
What metalgod said, check this out, listen at it with big ass headphones, turn all the lights off, and get yourself the best seat you can have in your house, and enjoy!

Re: Mike Portnoy leaves Dream Theater.
BTDT way long ago. If you guys like LTE, you should get into the Dixie Dregs. True masters... and you'll see how much influence the Dregs had on LTE and DT.

my name comes from that song and a variation of other things related to man destroying itself (acid rain). The bassist for LTE was a F*CKING god.
