its a top notch mobo. it has sata 3 and usb 3.0 which is great. 2x pci-e 2.0 x16 and 3 pci which is good too.

i would go with this hdd tho. only $25 more and its Western Digital and sata 3: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822136533

and i would go with this power supply. the corsair power supplies are the best on the market today: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product and its only $20 more

and for $10 more u can get a much better gtx 260 video card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814133270

bad idea, it is all fine parts except u should really get 4gb of ram. anything less is a waste

i would have bought the parts bleep said with the suggestions i made, it would have cost a little bit more but it would last a lot longer.

He probably won't need 4 GB to play a 6 year old game, even with the new update.

Plus he can always wait for a nice deal to pick up a few more sticks and throw them in later when he needs more memory.

It's not like im F*CKING poor.

I have 2gb of ram ATM.

Next F*CKING paycheck ill buy 2 more.

Im pretty sure my computer won't explode due to only having 2gb of ram for one week.

The G-skill is 1600 and the Crucial is 1333 and none of the crucial matched my motherboard.

1. I personally think the Antec 300 looks ugly.

2. I couldn't care less.. It's a F*CKING hard drive not once have i ever had a problem with Western Digital's hard drives.

First off,no one said ur poor mossy; sorry if it sounded that way when i mentioned 2 extra dollars. Secondly, the ram frequency you motherboard naturally runs at is 1333 MHz. To run it at 1600 you have to Overclock the ram frequency in the BIOS to 1600. That is because the motherboard; when you install the ram the motherboard naturally clock it down to 1333 (taken from motherboard specs: DDR3 1600(O.C)/1333). So choosing 1333Mhz would have been the proper option and the crucial ballistix have led lights in them that light up so those are also really really cool. Also i said the Samsung was better not because i don't think the Western Digital is bad, to be honest they make really good hdd's but because not only is the samsung better quality in terms of less DOA's but it is twice the capacity. Also, yeah the antec is not as cool looking as the NZXT (which btw is also a good case) the antec just cools everything much nicer and has better airflow which in my opinion beats pretty-ness anyday.

yea, i know 2gb of ram is probably fine for source, but that isnt the only reason i wouldnt havent bought those parts. bleep said the antec case is better, he is probably right, it might not be the prettiest case (even tho i think its awesome) it probably has much better airflow. and the hard drive i suggested is better than the one ur buying, because i suggested a sata3 hdd which is much faster than the one ur buying, and it has more cache. also, the power supply i suggested is tons better, i have read only awesome things about the corsair power supplies, they are amazing. and having 4gb of ddr3 1333mhz is better than 2gb of ddr3 1600mhz everytime. and the gtx 260 is better than the ati 5770. its ur computer, u do w/e u want, but u would not have bought the parts u did.

I almost bought the Crucial with the LED's but I've heard nothing but DOA stories or at the best, them lasting a week.

Yeah, but RAM isn't exactly as cheap as it was before. You could get about 2 GBs of DDR2 ram for about $25-$35 easy. Now you'd be lucky to find it for less than $45-50 for either DDR2 or DDR3 (especially DDR3). In my opinion I just don't think it's worth it to spend the extra $50 for the other 2GBs when I really doubt he'll notice the difference just playing Source (as a sidenote Mossy, I'm not calling you poor, I'm just saying that the money could be better spent elsewhere IMO given your budget and purpose for the computer ). Yes, 4GB > 2 GB, but his computer won't implode playing Source because of it. Personally, I'd build the computer with the given parts and try running source on it first before you order the other 2GB. If you really think it needs the speed boost, go for it, otherwise, don't worry about. That's just my opinion though.

Also, I'm a fan of Corsair PSUs as well and I understand some of your reasoning, but I wouldn't go as far as to say that it's a BAD build. It's not by any stretch, especially considering he just wants it to play source. It should be more than capable of doing that and then some. Plus your suggestions would have pushed the cost over $700, which was over what he wanted to pay for it.

tl;dr Mossy, your PC should be fine =)

first off, i never said it was a bad build. second, the build he is buing IS over 700 TOTAL:$724.07 w/tax and shipping. he could still go with my build but get 2gb of ram if he really wanted to. and i wouldnt ever buy 2x 1gb ram, it would be much more efficient to buy 1x 2gb of ram, it works much better that way. having 4x 1gb sticks is worse than having 2x 2gb sticks. and idk why $45-$50 is such a bad price for 2gb of ram, it seems dam good to me. of course he will be fine, but i would always say spend some extra money (not much in this case) and get a more future-proof computer, because at some point mossy might decide to play a game other than source and he will have more trouble doing that with ur build than mine.

Sorry, I mistook you saying the parts were a "Bad idea" as saying that it was a bad build. That was what I disagreed with the most as it's not a bad build by any means. Also, he said it was 724 after tax/shipping and below 700 beforehand. I was going by the beforehand as you can't really shave money off of tax/shipping unless you really try to find free shipping items. That's what I meant by below 700.

I think we just have opposing viewpoints here. I think it's better to find a computer within the price range that meets expectations. You feel it's important to futureproof in case there's something bigger and better he wants to play. Both are valid viewpoints and it's just a personal preference on the person buying the computer, as honestly it's a choice of paying now or later. Personally I like to start small and then slowly increment as I start getting disposable income, but again that's just me.
