anyone have any ideas on how i can get my mic to work ingame. the headset is fine and works, but apparently ingame its a pos. thank you to anyone who has any ideas.

what's wrong with it? Too loud? Too quiet? Try going into "Options" on the main menu, then "Voice"...the very last one. Make sure the "Boost Microphone gain" option is checked, make sure all the volumes are at decent levels....

thank you. imma get on that right now. okay, everything checks out and when i did mic test ingame...only 1 bar goes up unless i'm screaming. grrr

Alright...next thing to check:

I know you can go into "Volume Properties" through Windows (somewhere...Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, then click into Sound and it should bring up a listing of all the devices loaded onto your computer for Playback [speakers/headphones] or Recording [for microphones] for Windows 7) and check more stuff there...make sure your headset is the default "Recording" device...you can also right click on your headset and go into "Properties" there...again, making sure all the volume levels are correct.
The main thing you want to look for in the sound properties is that your headset is the default device for both "Playback" and "Recording"...
Again, if there's anyone who's more computer savvy than I am (which is probably everyone), please chime in here...these are just all the things I've had to do before to get my headset's mic working (and it never did, actually...hence, why I use a cheapo microphone from Walmart and my speakers).

well, it works fine in ventrilo. its just ingame that its low

step one, Open CSS before Ventrillo 100% of the time, this avoids teh F*CK up that HL2 Gets from fighting Vent

step two, follow joe's instructions

Step three, find a hammer, take said hammer and begin to smash either mic or your entire computer, whichever gives you more relief and happiness...

Actually in reality theres only a few things you can do that Im aware of to fix mic problems

1) voliume control in game, IE go to voice do the mic boost and increase outbound volume.
2) Volume properties in windows, go into the volume control --> Microphone advanced and check mic boost and increase the volume on it as well

3) audio drivers can sometimes be a weird source behind problems that they shouldn't be
go into your control panel

Audio options, find the device list and see what driver you use, google it and see if theres an updated version for it
