Post Front speakers don't work in Windows 7?
So my sound was working FINE before I installed windows 7, here's my situation.

Couldn't get my speakers to work for the past couple of days after I installed Windows 7. Under sound manager, my computer is producing sound, I see the sound bar bobbing when I play something. I've updated the audio drivers which were recently released to work with Win 7 a couple weeks ago (Realtek HD). Still wouldn't work, but just now I changed the speaker config to 5.1 speakers, which is what I have, but I just forgot to switch it over. I tried the test sound and all of my other speakers are working fine, it's just the front left and right two that produce nothing. Can't get headphones to work in either the front or rear jacks as well...

Any idears?

I'm going a bottom up apporach first and say check your connections.

than maybe uninstall the driver complete and fresh install teh driver.

So far, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver with and without updates and nothing so far. When I reverse the 2 rear and 2 front speakers, my front speakers receive rear sound fine, but then the rear ones don't work. When I have my speakers set to stereo sound, (obviously) nothing works at all.

OK, one more thing. I have 5.1 stereos, but when I change the configuration to 7.1, the front speakers pick up the part of the side pair speakers, but still no front sound.

Have you checked the forums of you sound card manufacturer and speaker manufacturer? If it's a Windows 7 compatability issue, then someone else has probably posted a solution there.

I had this happen to me. I had to locate & install the win7 driver specific to my soundcard (in this case its on-board, so I had to go to the motherboard manufacturer). Windows update doesn't find it yet.

Oh also-- win7's sound device program STILL doesn't recognize the front jacks-- so to do anything with them I have to work with them using the manufacturer soundcard management control panel.

It's more a minor annoyance than anything right now though.
