Post Need some advice on nuts and bolts.
I've got a bit of a problem here. I've bought a TV stand that's really cool looking. One of the parts was damaged on arrival so I called them and they said they'll ship another part to me. Several weeks pass and no part. I call them today and they tell me that the part kit is on backorder and they have no idea when it'll be ready. So now my only option is to try to fix the damn part.

This is the TV stand

This is the broken part

As I have absolutely ZERO experience working with metal, this presents a major problem for me.

I'm hoping some of you gun and car enthusiasts have come across similar problems and know what to do about nuts and bolts not fitting in general. I think the thread might be slightly off at the very top of the bolt, but I can't be sure.

Also, what kind of business might have the necessary tools to re-thread the bolt if it comes down to that? I'm almost 100% sure the nut is fine as the other metal tube fit in both bases properly.

Most hardware stores have a nut and bolt section and they could help you find the right pieces. As far as the thread being damaged, if you have a Harbor Freight store near you, you could get Tap & Die set for pretty cheap. Then rethread it. I hope this helps.

The stand is F*CKING heavy. Also by waiting for the part, it put me outside of best buy's return window. So retuening it is no longer an option.

thats such an easy fix its retarded...you use a new metal pipe, cut it, chrome it, and weld two washers on the end and a stud on one end to thread for a bolt. boom done.

Going by your pictures, nothing even looks broken.

If you bitch enough they will replace it for you. That's the one thing I've learned working for big box stores. You don't have to be right only have to have the balls to say you are and not take no for an answer.

Took the part to a local hardware store and they were able to grind off the tip and everything fits now. So much easier than lugging the whole stand back to the store.
