Attention all n00bs, admins, and interested parties!!

We have a couple of noteworthy items:

HELP WANTED
Bullet Catcher, our venerable and tireless first mate on this Gilligan's Island adventure has grown weary and would like to pass the torch. Bullet is responsible for maintenance of the n00b groups, admins, server setups and configs, and several other random items. Unfortunately, he's starting to feel a lot like I did back when I handed off the torch to him. He can't get online in peace anymore and he's ready to retire. We will be entertaining people's requests to take his place. You will need to have the right blend of personality, know-how, and online time. Interested? Email me or PM me.

INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY
Several members of the n00bfest community are pooling their resources to form a server rental company called "First Person Servers". At this point we have a few people forming together with skills, financial ability, and contacts to form a legitimate and legally formed LLC. We are looking to expand and pick-up additional partners that are willing to put in monthly cash to help cover expenses and also people capable for working on demand as live tech support. This is not part-time volunteer work, this will be a legally recognized partial partnership in the business. Anyone interested should email me or send me a PM.

By the way - n00bfest donations will still go towards n00bfest. The new server company will become the provider of all n00bfest servers and n00bfest (and me) will still be paying server fees to that company instead of Gameservers.com (our current provider). n00bfest and First Person Servers will remain as completely separate entities. n00bfest doesn't change at all. FPS is a new upstart company.

On a side note here: once this thing gets going, it's going to allow n00bfest to have complete control over the server. We (FPS) will have root access to the dedicated box that the game servers are on, which means we'll be able to actually FIX and/or PREVENT problems with the servers, rather than having Gameservers say "hurr dee durr! what performance problem?" As Martha Stewart would say, "it's a good thing."

Yea the time is just about here folks. Gotta pass the burning torch eventually so its just about time to do that. I will become a backup if backup is needed for some of the duties.

I would also like to add that we will out perform gameservers from day 1. No more lag no more server crashes and we will mostly always be around to take care of issues ASAP rather than having to put a ticket in and wait.

Wow this sounds like a pretty badass idea if I say so myself. Crashing servers have been a pain in the ass. I'd love to help out, as soon as I get a steady job, with the FPS. I kinda feel like I'm a freeloader since I haven't contributed anything more than my time to n00bfest. Also good luck finding a replacement. I'm sure there are a few candidates worthy and skilled to have the torch passed down to them.

I would like to take the opportunity to announce that this is a pretty sweet ass idea. If I could get more details and information I would not mind having a partnership in something I enjoy so much. As for taking Bullet's place, I'd like to see if I could try my hand @ that as well.

Sweet man Corpse and myself will work out the details with what FPS will offer. As far as taking over bullets job i will have to say this...

Im glad you want to help and everyone is welcome to "apply" but keep in mind that we are really looking for seasoned n00bs... Im not doubting you would do a good job, your loyalty or anything like that but you just joined up in march we wouldnt just give the new guy the keys to the vault ya know?

yeah Ive been here since October of 2005. What happened was when we moved from the old forums to the new one my account was "locked," because it has ` in it. When I would try to log on it says illegal username. I just recently remade a forum account because I was tired of just playing in the servers and not knowing all the dramaz going on.

how much of an investment per month are we talking about? will i get my own server to host scat pron on?

Thanks for the many replies and PMs so far on both subjects. Here's a couple of extra bits of info:

n00bfest Maintenance
Bullet will remain as a back-up person and can maintain some of the responsibilities as someone else comes on-board and starts to get the hang of things. This won't be a "cold turkey" break in the site and server maintenance. We should have a relatively smooth and painless transition.

First Person Servers
FPS will most likely be a partnership LLC filing as an S Corporation. Genocide and I haven't made any final decisions on which direction we'll be taking it, but I'm assuming a little bit here based on tax strategies. There will certainly be tax and reporting implications that need to be considered before people could just "sign up" for a share in the company.

Our intent is for Genocide and myself to hold a minimum of 51% of the corporate ownership and to divide the remaining minority share between investors. We have not yet established the number of investors, nor the amount of the potential monetary and tactical contributions, so share percentages haven't been established yet.

Obviously, it's not likely that any investors would see income from FPS in the immediate future. The intent would be to roll all revenues back into the business to create growth and assure FPS customers of an exceptionally high level of service and performance. It wouldn't surprise me to see this thing in 100% reinvestment mode for two years. Personally, I'd like to see this thing blossom into one of the major server providers of the gaming community.

NOOO, they say that all the good things at the end they just wither away, you did your time, you served very well to the community, i just hope that you fill your holes (no pun intended) and go into the server or come to the forums to post something once in a while.

I would like to hear more about the second offer Corpse is giving out to fellow n00b members, the thing is that i would like to be on the support channel, but still i have not so much experience handling a server, i used to once, but it was more like troubleshooting and workarounds not like solutions at all.

I might be interested in the funding option, but i need to hear more, and i would like to hear any one of you guys, i dont know how many time you need or if you are willing to accept a mexican´t but it would be great.

Fish mate, I will still be here and you know that. Its just that I can't keep doing this constantly day in and day out man. Startin to get tired you know what I mean? Its stressful at times, its a lot of hard work, and well, it eventually gets to ya and you just wanna step back and let someone else try and take on the responsibilities I did for n00b when I got put in the spot a couple years ago. But like Corpse mentioned, I will be behind the new guys back while he does the duties he gets. Council leadership is one of those responsibilities. A major one to be at that. One of the duties however will be exempted from the other duties done around here and that is the admin decisioning, promoting, demoting, and anything else that deals with admin (server admin mainly). The admin part is Elders decision only. Council doesn't decide on admins. They will only decide on everything else but that part. As of right now, I am still holding the torch til someone is chosen.
