Although monetarily draining, having 2 main servers for awhile would probably be necessary in order to redirect our traffic.

Maybe droppping down the old main to less slots and just plaster advertising for the new server like every 5 seconds would help too.

if it's only for 1 month i can throw down some extra cash to make this happen. whichever elder(s) would be making this decision PM me about $$

we're gonna need this done soon to allow the extra traffic from this kid inadvertently boosting our traffic LOL! (find vision's post with link to CAL forum)

Re-enabled chat flood-control due to fags abusing it to lag the server.

right now our monthly goal is $300/month. so basically we would need to figure out any difference in price between the main server now and a new server with better performance, plus the cost of having the current main server run for a month with reduced slots.

depending on how balls-out we want to go, i have found a few server sites and prices i looked at are shown below. all server locations would be dallas, except etgamehosting (they just say central US).

-fpsgameervers.com: $78.40/month 32 slots, 100tick, dedicated server (supposedly. it's a little unclear)
-Gameservers.com: $400/month truely dedicated server (ridiculously expensive, but should be able to host vent and website too)
-etgamehosting.com: $48/month no tick rate given, limited to 24 slots, most likely no dedicated availability
-nfoservers.com: $250/month +$73 set up fee, dedicated server, can host website & vent too

if the $300/month we're paying now includes website/forum hosting, stats, and vent, then we can easily switch to nfoserver.com for a very similar price(i used to run a server with them and it was never laggy).

anyway, just thought i'd help check some things out to help in case we get serious about executing the move :)

These are the ppl i go with. Fixed any problems i ever had and were very nice about it. But there more about competition servers then they are pubs so if you want a good server then yes if you want a big server then no.

You can't just host a vent server. It has to be done through a licensed ventrilo reseller.

Also, hosting the website and the counter-strike server is not a good idea. We've done it before, and it sucked. It's actually how we first had it set up, and it worked fine when it was a 12-man iceworld server and a 20-man main server with a website that saw only a couple dozen forum posts per day.. but with a 32 player server and possibly others, the level of activity we see on the website would F*CK everything up. Back in the day, if both servers were full, you could lag the servers by refreshing the website constantly. Each page load = multiple SQL queries = high disk i/o and high cpu/memory utilization. Plus, there's a lot more going on on the website than most people know about. There's a lot of disk space being used and a whole lot of bandwidth being utilized. That wouldn't jive well with a server running on the same box.

So yeah... The website costs under 100/month, and the main server costs ~$50ish. With ventrilo, cod4, and the other test servers and shit, it's right around $300/mo.

Look for a 100tic server that's not from clanservers/gameservers and is hopefully under $75/mo and we should be good.

If they've got test servers, post them here and we can check them out.

leetservers.com has 32man 100tic 500 FPS for $104.00

they also have packages which seem like a good deal but it's unclear on tic rate.

they also have test servers but no CSS in texas but if you call I think they will set one up for us to test out.

I checked them out, they have servers in Texas, but no test servers in Texas.

Edit: I also did a ping test,
HOST:
72.48.125.115

min: 37.19ms
max: 38.88ms
avg: 37.80ms

That's not too shabby, woot. Someone call these guys and ask em to set us up a CSS test server in Texas: 1-917-254-4050
