Post Lets Talk About Florida!!
I have an opportunity to move to Florida.

Lets discuss the taxes, insurance, property crisis, economy, and social issues!

Here's what I hear (re-butt away!)

Property Taxes are very high. In some cases the taxes are as much or more than the monthly payment of principle and interest.

Homeowners insurance is outrageous. It's about half as much as taxes (which makes it half as much as your principle and interest).

So basically I'm hearing that a house that would cost you $1,000 a month will cost you $2,500 by the time you add taxes and insurance to it.

Sales tax seems on par with the rest of the nation.

What are vehicle registration and inspection fees like? How frequent does it have to be re-done?

What about guns laws? I've got guns and I make my own ammo. Will I have to contact some government official to get myself registered as a law abiding rebel?

Is there a large gay population (besides Genocide and Baldreaper)? I really don't mind gays, but I find that heavy concentrations lead to near-militant "you MUST admit we're just as good as you" activities and marches. I've never seen a pro-hetero march that involved assless chaps or other perversions. What people do in their bedroom is their business and should STAY in the F*CKING bedroom. I'm not anti-gay, I'm anti-activist. Any activist or demonstrator is a BAD activist or demonstrator. They should have jobs that keep them to busy to march and whine.

FL has decent gun laws.. Legal to carry in your car even without a CWP which i have and is EASY to get as long as you arent a fellon.

there are no inspections for cars here in fl and registration is once a year and it is like 5 bucks to renew.

The insureance thing is tricky it depends on the area you said something to me about the Palm Beach area and taxes are high there and so is the insureance due to being on the coast line. In other countys the taxes and insureance isnt so bad.

The problem is not that people are taxed too little, the problem is that government spends too much.

We should measure welfare's success by how many people leave welfare, not by how many are added.

I'll just say what one old man said to me when we were there. You're living about 200 miles too close to Disney.

We lived in Clermont, though it was a nice area and all, it was expensive as hell. After about a month living there, we fought for 8 more months trying to get ahead to get out of there. Florida is like living in a different nation, it's like its not a part of the USA. I'm not kiddin' either.
