Most people are, I remember watching something about a scholar in the middle ages who proved that the heads of beheaded prisoners lived for a few minutes after the fact.

If it was quick, I'd think you'd be alive for a bit...until all the blood gets out from the brain and such, but, if your head is being sawed off, all the blood, more-than-likely, should have already all bled out. That's the way I think about it at least.
Back in those days, they used Guillotines on the prisoners. Quick beheadings, more blood still in the actual brain.
