Post Question about vista
I'm just curious if counter-strike would run on a 64-bit edition of vista? I heard a lot of programs don't run on the new 64 bit system and I just wanted to make sure CS did before I buy it

Is there a reason why you're going with 64-bit instead of the 32-bit?

I'm confused 64 isn't better than 32? I don't really have a choice on the OS so I just want to know if CS:S will run on it.

It is, but software hasn't really caught up to it yet. It'll be a little bit before we really see the advantages to 64 bit. Right now it just causes a few compatibility issues.

I don't know personally. I don't run 64 bit.

Well, XP-64 can handle more RAM than XP-32, but I don't know about Vista.

I forgot about that.

Yeah, vista 64 will handle more ram than it's 32 bit counter part (though, unless you're doing some heavy virtualization or plan on running Crysis and Call of Duty 4 at the same time, I doubt you'll NEED more than 2 GB).

Why bother with vista in the first place? Stick with XP for a few more years and upgrade directly to Windows 7.

if you have the choice in going 64 and 32 you SHOULD go 64 just because theres less support for it right now dosent mean its going to stay that way.. 64 can hande much more information at faster rates nothing wrong with being ahead of the trend soon everything is going to be 64 and youll be one of the few people laughing at everyone else cuz they have to upgrade :)

though im not sure if CSS works on 64 currently..just giving you some general computer advise

oh my god.

you people are sad.

64 bit driver and program compatibility issues haven't existed in large numbers since 2006.

Everyone and their F*CKING mom runs 64bit. F*CK, I even run 64bit ubuntu (wubi ftw).

64bit is capable of sending data to your processor at its full capacity (if you've got a 64bit processor).

Think of it like this. Your computer, much like the internet, is a series of tubes. If you've got 32 tubes, you're cool. If you've got 64 tubes, that's twice as many tubes so you're twice as cool.

A 64bit processor running a 32bit operating system is a waste.

Also, the 32bit architecture is capable of addressing up to 4GB of memory. Windows XP x86 (32bit) will only address 3.5 unless you haxor the boot.ini.

The 64bit architecture supports 18,000,000,000GB of memory. Good luck finding an OS that supports that, though. Vista Business x64 supports 128GB. SLES10 supports 512GB, and that's the highest amount of memory supported by any OS that I'm aware of.

the one thing though is that vista is shit. it's slow as hell and windows is already working to release a version (much like the failure of millenium) because everyone hates vista so much. i would try to stick with xp until windows dumps vista for a new version.

Don't compare Vista to ME. We had ME on the family PC for a couple years, and it was absolute crap and didn't work right at all. I've had Vista for a year and I have had no problems with it at all.

I've had no problems with Vista yet. I just got my new computer and I'm hoping CS:S works with this.
