Post Investing questions...
so im thinking about getting into the stock market and was wondering if any of you n00bs out there had any advice...

ive done some research into buying and selling, how the markets ran, what to look for in a good investment, and basicaly msot the other stuff you can do using MSN and google.

the only problem is I cant make up my mind on if its a good idea or not to actual put money in it. I dont "really" know what a good company is that i can invest in

anyone have any great ideas on this topic, or experience they like to share?????

Start with Etrade.

Start small. Do penny stocks till you get some idea of what you're doing.

penny stocks are a lot riskier than regular stocks... and you don't know pretty much anything about the company that you are investing in, its just like eni miney mo cuz they don't have any track records or anything cuz they are usually start up companies.
In my opinion it is a really good idea to invest, but if your thinking about investing cuz u want a safety net for retirement because you know the social security will not be able to help us when we retire, you should put your money into a roth ira mutual fund. It pretty much doubles like every 6 years so say ur like 18 right now and then put 2000 dollars in, then by the time your like 70 or something you should have more than a million dollars that is TAX FREE if you wait till you old enough. If you do decided to take it out for an emergency then there is a penalty and tax on it as well.

Don't listen to everything Metalgod said. :-P.

It's not a gamble. It's risky if you're not careful, but it's not a gamble. You won't lose it all if you diversify your investments. The stock market has historically ALWAYS gone up. If you're in it for the long run, you'll almost ALWAYS make money.

Now would be a good time to get in on some of the larger companies that are going to have a lot of new products releasing this fiscal year (Dell, Microsoft, HP, IBM). If you're interested in technology, take a look at some of these fiber-channel storage companies (like EMC and Compellent) and VMWare. The world's most serious high-density and high-efficiency server enviornments are all headed toward SANs/Virtualization.. and they're very very expensive. There's a lot of money to be made in that part of technology within the next 10 years. Also, depending on how much you want to invest, there are several other companies that have historically done very well in the stock market: Wal-Mart, Google, anything pharmaceutical.

Take advantage of our recession. Shit, the Euro is doing relatively well. Invest in foreign currencies. The Swiss Franc is the strongest currency in the world (and has been for a very long time). I'd start small, though. If your employer has a 401k, get in on that and diversify your portfolio as much as possible. In our current recession (I know it's not officially a recession, but jesus christ - iit's close enough), bonds (foreign currency) are the only thing that haven't lost me money. I've got quite a bit of money in european cash (the Euro and GBP) and it's doing very well.

Oh, and don't forget Oracle. They now have Virtualization support. 3par also makes some of the best SANs in the world.

BTW, if you're ever going to buy any Dell or 3PAR stock... do it now. Prices are at nearly two-year lows and they're starting to go back up again. Get 'em while you can.

Another thing: buying low and selling high is a decent strategy if you own the stock for more than a year. Otherwise, the taxes involved make it very hard to make any money doing so.

Gman can divine the future and has now told us that there is no uncertainty in it.

So, put all your money in U.S. Treasury bonds.

No gamble there.

I have this, I currently have Over 300 grand with a monthly investment of $30 bucks, and I only have around 2-3 years. By the time im 65 i'll have over 3 mill. (I'm 19 now.) AND IT IS A LIFE INSURANCE TOO.
