 Handgun Discussion
Alright, I've got it in my head that I'm getting a handgun with my tax refund. I'm looking to spend under 700 bucks. The only caliber I'm interested in is 9mm (because of ammo prices)
I'm considering the following:
Beretta 92FS (#1 on my list, Corpse has one and I love it)
Beretta 90-TWO (new version of the 92FS; it comes with 17rd stock mags as opposed to 15)
Glock 19 (a favorite of law enforcement everywhere; many claim it will never ever ever jam. ever.)
CZ 75 (arguably one of the best combat handguns in the world)
Baby Eagle (probably #2 on my list. Can't go wrong with IMI/IWI)
USP 9mm (not really that thrilled about the USP because the grips feel funky, but H&K rocks)
P228 (feels good in my hands, except you have to pull the trigger back two miles before it fires)
Anyone have any input here? Anyone own any of these handguns?

First off, thanks for the raging hard on.
My personal choices
1. Springfield Arms - XD (thats X D not the stupid ass smiley thing)
Comes in all calibers and different colors. First and only choice of most police officers in my area. Uses the same floating barrel like the glock. HUGE MAGAZINE CAPACITY! I have shot many variations of this gun and its in my view the best pistol for the money. Price is around $600 and can be bought as a combo with extra clip holster and so on.
2. Heckler & Koch USP
These come in tons of different calibers and variations. Very reliable, being used by government agency's and is popular with SWAT and other special response teams. Suppressors can legally be bought and used with this pistol. Plus its the starting pistol for CT's in CS.
3. CZ 100
CZ came out with this to supplement the polymer frame craze. High capacity and like you said, its one of the best. Never shot one but have talked to the guy at the gun shop who said its so great that he would stick it in his bum.
4. Kimber Raptor .45
Its $ but its one bad mama jama. Kimber is a pistol that is used by target shooters who can afford them. If I had an extra $1000 I would have one.
<img src="http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m318/pike_mazter/Kimber-Raptor-003.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">
5.Beretta Storm Series
Another great pistol. Don't know a bunch about it but have shot them a few times and have not been disappointed. Another SWAT and off duty carry choice by many.
6. Smith & Wesson Sigma
Pistol is cheap, and you get what you pay for. I have owned one and had no problems as long as I fed her good brass, buy cheap ammo and you can expect jams. Keep her clean and she will treat you good.
I don't have anything personal against Magnum Research and their pistols but I have heard nothing but negative things. Its popular overseas from what I hear.
Wish I knew more about pistols, let me know when you ready to be a real man and buy a shotgun. Then I'll invade your brain and have you shitting your pants knowing the knowledge I hold.

Kimbers are very, very nice. I've never fired one, but I've heard very good things about them. I don't really want to spend that kind of money on a handgun right now, though.
The XD is a decent looking handgun; I'm a huge fan of Springfield. I think that if I were going to get a Springfield, I'd get the P9 (which is their version of the CZ-75).
I don't really like USPs that much, so I'd have to get a really good deal on one for me to buy it. The grip on them (that spikey shit) is really uncomfortable to me, and I think I'd have to modify it before I could fall in love with it.
The storm looks pretty cool. It kinda has that P99 look to it. Hmm.. a P99 might not be a bad idea.
Whatever I decide upon getting is going to be highly influenced by the price of a threaded barrel for one. I can get a silencer for around 400 bucks, but the license (tax) to get a silencer in TX is $400, so it'd be something I'd have to do over a long period of time.

Gman,
Is this for carry or for running around shooting cans? Just kinda wondering why you would choose 9MM over a larger caliber. I know 9 is cheaper, but if you are carrying I would spend the extra dough for some punching power.
I actually find out tomorrow if we are gonna carry at work. Its the final meeting, and if it goes through I'll be making as much maybe more as a police officer with half the crap. I doubt its gonna happen though, unlike the corporate suits I have done tons of research and if they want it its gonna cost some bucks for licensing and permits.

This is for recreational shooting and fun. I don't have a great need for "home defense" as I live in a relatively nice neighborhood in a nice quiet town.
I don't have my concealed handgun license, and don't really see a need to get one. It'd be more trouble than it's worth, and my C*CK really isn't THAT small.
I figure if someone is breaking into my house, I've got my M4 underneath my bed and enough ammo to wage war with Utah in my ammo tin right next to my bed. An M4 is much more intimidating than any handgun. I don't care who you are.
Besides, if I'm going to shoot someone with a handgun, I'm not going to stop with one bullet. I'm going to put 3-4 into them.

Oh ok. I keep a shotgun next to the nightstand at all times, even though I to live in a decent neighborhood. You just cant be to careful though. I have no plans on getting my concealed but maybe someday. A lot of my friends have them and carry every were, so if it really came down to it I can just hide and let them shoot and spend the next 6 months in court. Michigan is actually an open carry state but NOBODY openly carries as if they do the police harass them.
Michigan just changed laws regarding personal defense in home and public. We used to be an "option to flee" state. They have now gone back to the do whatever it takes to protect you and others by any means. I always carry a knife not for protection but for personal use, its there if I need it though.
I have only a couple "assault" rifles. They are for fun, unless a zombie outbreak happens. Even if the zombies start eating people I think I'll still sport the shotgun. Now if the Chinese invade, well I guess I'll sit on the roof and plink them off as I see them. Thats a good use for a rifle.

I'd be careful with Utah, word is they are now the leading state for non-government military. I watched a video not to long ago about their militia. It puts the Michigan boys to shame, well almost.

I still think 9mm are useless, Go for a Glock 22 .40 caliber, I have had mine for 3 years and loooove it.
As for 9mm's though, I only have experience with 2 brands:
Springfield XD, which arent too shabby, but I am not a fan of safeties, and I never got used to the palm safety on them. so meh.
And the Army issue M9 Beretta, which is more useful if you use it as a blunt weapon or as a throwing weapon.
So yeah, go get a .40, decent priced ammo, can hold a 14 round clip, and it will put a bigger hole in somebody

I don't live in Utah. I live in Texas. I just said Utah because Utah sucks, and I wouldn't mind waging war on Utah.
I understand that 9mm isn't the best in regard to "knockdown power," but even a .22 to the head is going to kill someone (I'm also just using that as an example, I know the ballistics of a .22 make it the best "headshot" gun for the price - which is why gangsters use them).
I don't plan on using a handgun for "home defense." Cory's bedroom is closer to the door than mine is. He can have that responsibility. If I wake up to a shotgun blast, trust me... I'll be grabbing my M4 and throwing a 30rd magazine in it in no time.
9mm is the cheapest caliber (shy of .22) that can be fired from a handgun. That's why I want it. I'm looking for sheer affordability here. I'm really leaning toward the CZ 75 (actually the CZ 75 clone by Springfield) because it very closely resembles the 1911 and because of its rave reviews by military/police.
I'm looking for a handgun that I can take to the range and fire anywhere from 100-500 rounds out of and then take home and make sweet, sweet love to. The 92FS would be pretty fun, and I learned how to do the Jackie Chan "take the top slide off in one fluid motion" thing with it when I was at Corpse's house a few weeks ago. I'm still really up in the air. I may have to go to the gun store next Monday and take a look at a few of these to see how they feel in my hand. I'm a big ass dude with gigantor hands, so I'll need something very comfortable.

Honestly, if I were going to for something bigger than 9mm I'd get a 10mm. The Glock 20 rocks mai cawks. If you haven't looked into 10mm, you should check it out. It's way, way better than .40.

Nothing is useless. Just like Gman said, a well placed shot can knock down the biggest bedroom creeper. Not only that but ballisticlly the .22 bullet is the hardest to recover. They tend to shatter or turn into shrapnel when then hit something remotely hard, like a bone. So if your trying to keep your murder cases down, choose the .22, or just hire.
