Post One Hard Drive to Another
Is it possible to just move all my Steam files on my external hard drive and it's considered "installed" on that hard drive? Or do I actually have to uninstall on my internal and re-install on my external?

It's just that my internal hard drive is the stock one that the computer came with and only holds 32 gigs while my sister is letting me use her 300 gig external hard drive she got off of eBay for around $100-$150.

I was hoping to just put all the heavier shit on my external hard drive.

I'd think you could drop all the files there, but if Steam and it's shit use registry keys you'd probably need to go edit those keys to point them in the right direction of everything and then change your shortcuts and all.

I wouldn't know how to do it and I don't really even know if I said anything that makes sense to someone who knows more about registries than I do.

Google might turn something up on it, but I'm homosexual, etc. etc. etc.

If your using the same computer that the external hard drive plugs into to play games through Steam it shouldn't be a problem just moving the folders over. You might just have to create a new shortcut from wherever you drop the files.

Also, Steam has backup options that will allow you to burn all your stuff and recover from disc. That might not be a bad idea to do that because installing Steam and all your games again can be a long process. especially all the map packs and sound files you might have to download again when you visit all your favorite servers.
