I also have the 4850 but have had no problems what so ever. What problems have you had rex?

I like it, but after you add decent enough RAM and a motherboard to keep up with that CPU it'll be atleast $800 - $850

he has a gigabyte motherboard listed there. look a little harded. but true, i didnt see any ram, which would probably cost close to $100.

Whoops!! I actually had 4GB ram in the list at first....idk when i removed them then anyways heres a new list w. crucial ballistix 2GB DDR3 1333 and the cost comes up to 726 so yeah sorry about that but youll be able to run perfectly fine w. 2 gigs and then when u get 50 more bucks u can go and buy another stick and boom u have 4GB ram with 2 slots still open!! Perfect combo if u ask me. Thats actually what i did.

Anyway heres the RAM
Code:
Crucial Ballistix 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model BL25664BN1337
Item #: N82E16820148304
Return Policy: Memory Standard Return Policy
$52.9

in terms of gaming AMD is on par with intel until you get into the i7 which alone can cost more than half the rig so shut it nukkah Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_28

Now that CPU's are so powerful it's pointless to fight about which one can run your game better.
When it mattered, AMD was where it was at.
Even though they weren't good for multitasking like an intel they were still great processors.
Now they're even greater, I wouldn't build an Intel based machine for myself (unless it was free, but I'd just sell it and build an AMD based one).
Remember though, this is just MY opinion.

Post Re: Building a computer...
I second Bleep, and I'd go with AMD not Intel. Your list didn't contain HDD and optic drive, so I assume you don't need them.

Below is what I come up for you under $700:

=============
CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 635 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103702.).
According to CPU benchmark the AMD Athlon II X4 635 is faster than intel i3 540 (http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup. ... +II+X4+635. vs. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup. ... 40+3.07GHz.) and it's cheaper by $50

MB: GIGABYTE GA-870A-UD3 AM3 AMD 870 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813128443.)
Good MB for decent price

Memory: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231189.)
Buying less than 4 GB is IMO pointless. Also, this memory is listed as a supported for the MB above (http://www.gigabyte-usa.com/FileList/Me ... 0a-ud3.pdf.)

VGA: EVGA 512-P3-N871-AR GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB 256-bit DDR3 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130339.)
Should be more than enough. One GPU/VGA is enough. If you're thinking about going SLI or CrossFire in the future you'd need to invest more in power supply. There's $30 mail-in rebate

Case: Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811129042.)

Power Supply: Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817371015.)

Cooler: ZALMAN CNPS9900ALED 120mm (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835118046.)

=============
Total: $646.88 (including shipping). Get $30 off as a rebate and it's for $616.88. Seems that they give a HDMI cable for free to this combo.

I run on AMD Athlon II X4 635, 4GB RAM, nVidia 9600 GT 512 MB RAM and it's more than enough for CS:S.

It's cheap and 78% of 1905 people gave it 5 eggs. And I like Antec Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_06

I have previous version of http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811129025.
This looks so good: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811129056

I have run both AMD and Intel, so the next gaming machine I build will be a AMD machine. Intel is nice but the AMD was much better for gaming and that is all I use my system for.

You know one of my bestfriends girlfriend owns tigerdirect? At first I thought she was lying, but then she got my $180 video card for $60.
She also gave me a list of suppliers so that I can continue to get super cheap shit under tigerdirects name but for my personal use.
