Post Under The Dome
Is anyone watching this? I enjoyed the book immensely, and the series is living up to my expectations, similar to Game of Thrones in how well it's been translated (though updated a bit to cater to the times).

The episodes air Mondays at 10pm EST or 9pm CST on CBS, and then every Friday on Amazon Prime.

Matt Groening and him are like big buds,he told SK to take the story and see what he could do with it.He made it into a movie about selling chicken in a dome.I read the the book, ive read all his shit. The book was pretty good, but as soon as i saw they changed it to much and made Barbie a murderer i gave it up.On the hole whole his short stories and novellas make the best movies, like Shawshank Redemption (Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank redemption) Stand by me (The Body) The Green mile.In a way i would love to see The Gunslinger hit the big screen, but i know they would just F*CK it up.Roland deserves better.KA

It's ka that keeps our friend Roland and The Dark Tower from the big screen. Maybe he doesn't deserve to be ruined by a feeble attempt at making him the star of a movie series by a dumb director who never read the books. I'm reading The Wizard and Glass right now, about to be done and moved on to The Wind Through the Keyhole. This book series has changed my life.

Thank'ee Sai, for bringing it up. Long days and pleasant nights.

They actually have a line in the show where they say that Matt Groening called it. Still worth watching though, unless you're a big floppy vagina!

Post Re: Under The Dome
I'm actually glad that they altered the storyline, the thing just got picked up for a second season, and this season isn't even over yet, so that means that this season will probably not (more like definitely not) finish with the book ending. The material is good enough where, despite how huge the book is, a lot can be added (and already has) or altered without seriously damaging the story. Here's a letter he wrote concerning all of the changes: http://www.stephenking.com/promo/utd_on_tv/letter.html

As to the whole 'Simpsons did it" thing, yeah, the movie came before either the book or the TV series, but the concept for the story started in 1976, but SK left it alone because the trail went cold for several decades. A lot of the things he's written recently are of that same vein. Heck, the new book coming out, "Doctor Sleep", is a continuation of "The Shining", which was written ages ago. Sometimes it takes a while for an idea to come to fruition, and UTD is one of those cases.

Oh yeah, to further show that Groening and SK are in cahoots, so-to-speak, I found this image from a 2010 episode:

As for Roland of Gilead, you would have to create a similar series as the kind that Under The Dome has become, but it would have to be a very, very long-running series.

On a side-note, I actually woke up this morning from a dream that featured SK. My girlfriend had just gone off-stage at some thing, and SK was walking toward the stage to do his own speech for something, and she said hi to him and gave him a hug, and he was ecstatic to see her and hug her. Then I said "Hi Steve!" and he didn't look as excited to see me, but he was nice enough to quickly give me a hug as well even though he was in a hurry to get to the on-stage podium.

I think the book is really good in that there are so many characters in it, all with relatively well-developed storylines all interconnecting. However, I think that the series really one-ups the book.

The book was an overall disappointment. Yes SK did a good job of character and plot tie-ins....but after 1100 pages and 90% being character development. ..it had shown its true colors again of being written by SK. As you can tell...not a big fan. The plot was good, just drawn out in usual SK fashion

If you're not an SK fan, and you don't care for his literary style, how do you justify saying something is terrible, when in fact, it's pretty damn good? I'll admit, sometimes it can be distracting, reading for like 10 pages about a F*CKING chair. That being said, if you're not a fan, saying something is disappointing is like saying "I am not a fan of the New York Yankees, but I'm gonna watc h a game every now and then because maybe I'll think they're suddenly cool" only to find out that you just don't like the New York Yankees, and probably never will. It's a moot point, but I concede the massive amount of character development.

The Dark Tower series is also pretty much all character development, but it's an epic tale of very memorable characters and mythology. All things serve the beam, thankee sai!

Oh yeah, I just found this T-Shirt:

I will admit I am not a fan of his literary style, the book was built up considerably by a good friend of mine, which failed to deliver for me. Thats how it was disappointing.
