Because an IP change is devastating to the server attendance. We just got the server up to full capacity recently, so moving it to a new IP would remove it from a lot of people's favorites.

I've done this before and been surprised how many regulars we have that can not or will not pay attention to messages that the server is moving, and when it moves they just vanish.

Instead of 32/32 every night, we'll be back to 12 or 18 for a while again. Besides, we've got 3 servers and two massive Vent servers from them right now.

Don't forget, this is a hobby for me with few donations each month to help cover costs. It's mostly out of my own pocket so those great big badass server companies that guarantee no lag? No thanks. If we had more regular contributors that I could depend on each month to help cover the bills, I'd consider it. Unfortunately, if the donations stop, I'd have to come crawling back to Gameservers on my knees to get a deal again.

I'll just hammer their asses to make them give us what we want.

Tactical server probably won't happen.... sorry. I like the idea, but it's just not gonna happen.

CS:Source Elite server probably won't happen either for a while. We just got our traffic up-to-par and that's something that gets added when max capacity is no longer sufficient for weekend playtimes. We're getting close to that point, but we're not quite there yet.

It might take even longer to get there, given the following:

Most likely, a 100 tic full-time CS:Source server will be created with a password for members-only access. Something small like a 10 or 12 person server, for n00b members and squads to use for tactical play, scrims, or general nighttime enjoyment.

Probably 10 players to more accurately simulate matches, and to keep the cost down since it'll be 100 tic.

n00b members will have access to reserve the server if they need some private time for practices, and non-n00b people can be invited into the server and given the password to enter, as it will be changed regularly.

I remember when we had a plugin for CZ that let people watch the game in Java. Something like that would be badass for a scrim server. It's time-delayed by 30 seconds so it can't be used for cheating, but it was great fun to watch.

I think a 10 slot would be just fine. Once I get a job again, I'll be able to donate a small portion of my paychecks. But like you said, if more people donated, then there'd be a larger range of possibility. But personally, I'm content with where we are.

And honestly, the lag on the server isn't really a big deal anyway. It comes, it goes, whatever. When EVERYONE stops, and EVERYONE resumes playing at the same time, it's not going to cost you a death unless you would have had it coming anyway.

True. There's certainly something odd about the lag because it seems to be time sensitive. I don't lag during the day, even if the server is full. At night it lags even if it's only half full.

They've tested the machine for loading, so it might be an issue with something else like a switch or router that chokes when some other connected machine gets overloaded.

I'll be able to start donating again too once I get my second job. I like the idea of having a locked scrim server or just a locked server just for some enjoyment. Maybe some day down the road I'll be able to help contribute to a full on elite server that we could have set up for us. MAYBE.

I would play all the time on an elite server.

I just don't like the main anymore. There are too many folks for a good game, I just can't enjoy the game in a crammed server, it gets irritating. : p

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of a 32-man server. I mean, I play there damn near every day because it's the only source server we've got... but I'd have a lot more fun in a 16-man server.

I also don't hate awps. Obviously restrict to 2 or 3 a team or something like that but, I like to be able to actually stay on my game and pub.
