Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_08 Ok, I just wanted to say I noticed that the new political conflicts and religion forum "Durangos (cut and paste) Bunker" appears to be limited with viewing and participation for only registered members as opposed to the wider/general audience. (I sent the forum link to my wife to check out and she could not access without me logging in?) I would prefer more opinions and participation if possible. I would like to suggest opening that forum to the general public in order to raise participation, ideas and retorts from a broader base of readers. If i'm wrong and the forum is not blocked for non-n00bs/members, my apologies and nevermind. Thx Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_02 |

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence. You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves. - Abraham Lincoln |

censorship is in place to please the parents who are too lazy or too stupid to teach their kids right from wrong. |

Well, that's irrelevant...he didn't say censorship works, he just said it's there because parents want it to work instead of them having to work. |

Well, that's irrelevant...he didn't say censorship works, he just said it's there because parents want it to work instead of them having to work. Not quite, parents can do all they can and still fail because even if you block the computer and television, you still have other children at school that are not censored at home and will fill youre children in on whatever they want. So therefore its a mute point, because you will never be able to enforce every single parent to be responsible. All you can do is constantly counteract the undermining from their peers and hope to raise a responsible, mature child. Dont accuse parents of being lazy, try being a parent before you start playing the blame game 1st. Its not as cut and dry as a simple gaming forum debate. |

So therefore its a mute point, because you will never be able to enforce every single parent to be responsible. You're missing the point, "mute" or not. No one has defended censorship as an effective parenting tool; instead it's being attacked as an ineffective one. Of course you have to do more than depend on censorship if you want to be a good parent, that's not contrary to what anyone has said so I'm not sure who you guys are responding to. Cup may be wrong, but the responsive counter to what he said is to question his idea that the only reason we have censorship is to cover for ineffective parents. It's probably pretty easy to argue that we have censorship for political reasons, to protect the interests of the wealthy, or to keep up viewership ratings on TV and other media. |

i believe joey from "friends" calls it a moo point... but we're all a little right here. parents and society as a whole do lack responsibility and accountability. censorship was created, at least in part, to help combat the inept people who choose to breed from affecting the rest of our country's youth. yes there may be other reasons for it's creation, but i am not trying to argue those points. the reason censorship is unsuccessful is for the same reason it was created; people are not responsible enough. it could be made so that parents' fingerprints are required in order to view adult material and kids would still be able to watch it, because parents just don't care enough to stay involved in what their children see/hear. |
