Politics forum being deluged with comedy and humor posts
Politics forum being deluged with comedy and humor posts.
It appears someone feels that comedy and humor regarding politics should be railroaded into and only be posted in the new Politics forum which up till now had been by in large a serious forum with much good spirited debate, idea exchange and discussion occurring. I had even tried to set the tone early on that this forum should be an exchange of ideas and not used as a forum for political insults and attempts at political comedy and humor. Would the powers (elders) that be, please make a determination which path you want to follow. I ask you to consider this approach to be counter productive and against the general rule of insulting and comedic humor being allowed to run rampant in every other forum but politics.
Thank you in advance.

His aircraft is expected to touch down in Atlanta at 0430Z, and it will be accompanied by seven other aircraft containing reporters from CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, and Pravda. Obama went on to say that, in a spirit of inclusiveness, he would agree that Russia could have part of Georgia --- Savannah, Brunswick, and perhaps as far inland as Macon and Valdosta . However, with his chin firmly set, Obama strongly declared that he would never give up Georgia west of I-75, but east of I-75 is open and negotiable in order to save Georgia from itself.

In light of this, I propose an amendment: only political humor at the AFRICAN AMERICAN's expense should be allowed!

You're the moderator of the politics forum. Man up and moderate it.
As a moderator of whole board, I take video posts and move them to the NSFW forum. I take political posts and move them to the politics forum. Now that we have a Competitive n00bs forum, I will move any new competitive gaming posts to the proper forum. If someone is abusing the rules, remove them/their posts.

For the record, that was one of the posts moved, and not originally posted in the political forum as it did not even exist yet.

I did not ask to be moderator, someone just decided that on their own, and I did moderate and not allow the forum to become a insult infested zoo, by not allowing the gray area posts between humor and seriousness to be posted in that forum. You did. And if you want to man up on your recent poor judgement that caused this complaint, my PM box is wide open too... Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_02

I told you not to make political posts in the general forum. You bumped 3 old posts in a fit of childish rebellion knowing that I was going to do something with them and you could have your little moment of "me against the man".
But if democracy in action is what you're really after, why don't you actually ask other n00bs what they want.

I say if we can't have humor, then we can't have copy/pasted ideas. If you want to discuss something, then you type your own idea of what is happening/what you want to happen/or whatever, but don't copy and paste a site's idea and say that it is yours.

Ha
say what what, never said that but here is what I did say...
What's your point? Many of the links I provided are reputable sources (AP, Washington Post, Times etc.) and most of the info/articles can be found on multiple sites I just don't post everyone of them. So are you suggesting we should not review and consider any source that does not meet your Journalistic criteria and any idea or written text not my own is not worthy of posting.
Instead of displaying your pessimistic and arrogant attitude, why don't you try to open your horizons and maybe even support or retort any of the info presented you do or don't agree with.
My intentions are to provide you all with information and ideas (good or bad) to inspire critical thinking and discussion on the ideas and info provided. I need not be the originator of all that I post to achieve my goals.
maybe you should just read the forum and keep your mouth shut if you can't add anything constructive.
Ans since when did it become a crime to agree with or hold the same idea or opinion as someone else or something already published...
And to clear any other misunderstanding, I often post things in opposition to my personal view for the sake of the discussion as a whole and not for my personal agenda.
And one more thing to set the record straight. I would bet you I have typed more original content and thought in that forum in the past week, then you have in the entire time you have been here. Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_31 Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_02 Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_11

No, what Spyda is saying (which Corpse, myself, and maybe others have also said) is that copy/pasting articles doesn't really further intelligent discussion. While your sources may be credible, providing a link is enough for the curious reader to go explore on their own.
If instead you just put forward your own argument in however many sentences, and then provided links for questionable facts, it would be more enjoyable for everyone (except maybe you?).
Along with that, a majority of the links you post are op-eds, which are fine to read but that's just like saying "I think this, here's someone else who also thinks this." If instead we stuck to just providing evidence for facts/figures that we cited in our arguments, it would help eliminate a lot of the excess text that's crowding up the threads.
It's nothing personal, and it's nothing against the sources you're using (usually). It's just that everyone else is formulating their own position (probably based on other sources, but at least summarized in their own words) and it messes up the flow of the discussion if we have to read pages and pages of copy/pasted text just to sort out your stance.

I did not hear Corpse say that at all? Do you have a quote of his to indicate this, or any others for that matter aside from your own? You might come up with one or two, I could probably discredit their theory and intent, let's see.
I would argue that indeed, whatever vehicle the article, information or idea gets in front of you and read, really does further intelligent discussion regardless of if I wrote it or thought of it myself and or if it reflects my personal view versus Rev Wrights. Please explain your theory further. And again we can debate my methods and if my posts are for only the curious reader or to include the lazy or technically challenged readers as well.
Op-eds, laugh, did you actually determine that to be a factual statement (the majority of my links are op-eds
), or is that just your opinion. show me articles or reporting that is not an op-ed in some form. I think discussion is primarily just that. I could not form my own opnions from nothingness (I could, but then I might sound more like JFOBP J/K hehee), I prefer to see (or read) others perspectives and positions (including any and all related material) and then form my own, educated stance.
Is that how you approach things, in a vacuum of only verbal and op-ed from people you know or relate to in a forum? This idea that op-eds, or to stick with neutral reporting or use only "credible" web sources and that evidence for facts and figures and more verbosity is not desired nor helpful and/or hinders the learning process or someone’s ability to attempt to pin me down on my personal views, flies in the face of logic. How do you suppose everyone else is formulating their own positions and how does introducing/providing relative information mess up the flow of the discussion. Sounds like you just don't want to read the writing to further enhance your own stance... But I know you better, you seem to be smarter than this. Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_25
I could further argue that some prefer the embedded text and do not make the mistake of thinking that just because I posts something, does not constitute originality, plagiarism or a solid indicator that it's a credible source (subjective) and or that I hold the opinion and or position of the info/article presented.

I'm getting the feeling that that's what this democracy wants anyway, beyond me how you all want to keep your heads in the sand, but so be it and good luck, unless I hear a rising otherwise, I'm just going to stick to gaming and the occasional funny post as I once was. Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_43
Their are plenty of other forums on the net who are not as particular about how they learn and who's ideas or thoughts they learn from that I can/do participate in. Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_19

I'm neither accusing you of plagiarism, nor attacking the sources you use.

That's all I'm saying. What harm would come of it if you wrote out a few sentences/paragraphs/whatever, and provided links, instead of copy/pasting pages?

I am writing paragraph after paragraph after paragraph displaying many personal ideas, theories thoughts and discussion, and yes I include links to substantiate my sources and similar thoughts. The harm comes from this, when I post a link, that link 9 times out of 10 contains a lot more information, ideas and commentary then the text I might choose to present from said link, thus my pasting text and or enhancing the font/size to draw attention to portions I may or may not agree with to highlight it's relevance to the discussion could be mis-interpreted. And it's my preference to present in this manor, I'm not here for a popularity contest nor am I going to worry about how some may enjoy or not enjoy my methods. Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_20

Certainly, but if people don't enjoy your methods, they're far less likely to read your posts or participate in the discussion...that means in the overall picture it's counterproductive to your goal of educating us all.

I'm not so worried about reaching every last one of you. I can live with it if you or someone else like cup, chooses not to participate and or learn because of them taking offense or even an exception to my methods. Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_17
I've got much bigger things to worry about.
It's kind of like a TV station, if you don't like what's being said or how it's being said, you don't have to watch it. I'm not holding a gun to anyones head here. I'm not going to cry if you don't like my style, but I also don't need to participate if in fact everyone feels as you do.
But so far, the only person of any intelect who has raised this issue IMO is yourself (spyda and cup don't have my respect for me to care). I am waiting to see what others really feel/think, and if they prefer that I not participate if I can't conform to your outlined approach, I have no problem stepping aside and playing (blogging on politics and intellectual issues) elsewhere.

And why don't you respond as I asked with more explaination on your theories on sources and substance that I argued just a post ago? You all seem to point to style issues and never really address the topics or arguments. Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_25
I'm beggining to think my age, thus wisdom just doesn't fit here, which is why I feel that sticking to posts about taint and who got it in the butt may just be my best move.
And really, my work is done here, I have more than cracked open the door to critical thinking (I opened it wide open) for several of you, and provided enough info to keep you talking and hopefully thinking for months if not years to come.
I do give you and Vision props, you two I think (aside from Corpse who also has age and wisdom on his side) did provide me with the best discussion, retorts and ideas from the many exchanges going back over the years here at n00bfest. Kudos Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_19
And Cup and Jar can sleep a little easier tonight knowing they won't have to submit to an intellectual beating at the hands of someone like me. Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_04
lol, cup and jar, I see a pattern here... 1 verbose intellectual guy, 1 cup, and 1 jar.
you can picture the video... Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_02

I do agree with Judi to an extent, mainly because IMO the board format used for this forum just doesn't lend itself to reading news stories off of (reading lots of white text on a black page just doesn't work well with my eyes). Maybe you could post the link then after it an excerpt of the most important part?
That being said, it would be a damn shame if you'd stop posting, Durango. I like hearing your opinions on the news and events (even if I may not agree all the time, it's still fun to read). Hell, the politics forum gives me something to look forward to when I'm done with classes/work.
As for the issue of political humor in the forum, why don't we have one stickied thread dedicated to political humor? That way it would stay in the forum, but at the same time remain separate from the serious discussion.

I thought I was pasting the link and then an excerpt of the most important part, I suppose I could parse the excerpt down even further to try and bring the focus even finer, but usually the content I select usually has benefit and bearing on the topic, at least to me I feel it did.
And thanks for your kind words, I do enjoy participating, the reason I pushed for the forum to begin with.
I can live with a stickied thread dedicated to political humor, but still think it should not be censored from other forums, just because it's political humor. Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_17
