Post Bastion Review
"Good Work, Kid"

I find myself always marveling and drooling when I pick-up a new "indie" game as opposed to these "corporate" games (i.e. Call of Duty, Battlefield, Blizzard Games, etc) because I always know that this game is the direct image of the developers dream. This is their baby, their pride and joy, something that wasn't sponsored or advertised every 5 mins on ESPN *cough* Gears of War 3 *cough*. So when I finally got the chance to pick up the game "Bastion", after the first 5 mins I was in love...

*Trailer*

The reason that this seemingly "hack-and-slash" variety game gripped me from the get go was the way the developers, SuperGiantGames ironically is the name of the developer, approached the presentation of the game to their audience. You weren't told an endless plot with non-relatable characters, starting in Town A as you do quest A-B-C Fed-Ex style to level up. No, what grips you from the beginning is the fact that every move, action, and kill you make is narrated by a smokey, corner of the bar, whiskey drinking, Texas voice who just focuses your attention and never lets go.

Bastion is special. The soundtrack is phenomenal, the world artistically is breathtaking, and the narration as previously said is something I haven't heard before. Finding a new enemy in a normal hack-and-slash is an uneventful affair---I kill it and move on. But in Bastion, the entire battle with Sir Lunky, a giant, colorful frog with a stone covered head, is narrated and given a soul. By the time he's dead, I know more about him than I do about most game characters, connecting me to the world. Nearly every moment like this is tying the player into the world. It's a satisfying experience, through and through, and one you must pick up asap! Let me know what you think!

Played the demo and was throughly impressed.

It's one of the few indie games that isn't shit on Steam.

Oh boy, I'm going to be busy for Steam's winter sale!

Will be too busy playing BF3 until ME3 comes next year.
