I always thought that if there are two people, John Doe 0:0:12345 and Jane Doe 0:1:12345, that John Doe was an older player than Jane because for that series of five digits they ran out of 0:0's and started 0:1's then went to the next digit. Not sure why they wouldn't just do 0:2's and so on if that were the case. Cause I hold 0:1 digits in a state of "that guy prolly sucks". Because of my thinking of that matter.

But I did always know that a 0:1:12345 was an older player than 0:0:1234567

Who wants a steam id that has a 0:1: in it, that's just stupid for them to do that in the first place.

Yeah I was one of the loyal people until for whatever reason I was forced to adopt it- some game or beta came out that required it. Evidently I adopted early anyway.

I think the STEAM_0:0: and STEAM_0:1: little to do with age except in extremely old accounts. It mostly has to do with what master server you're on (when one of two masters went down, the 0's could get on but the 1's could not).

the number after the 0 is what server they registered on.

Anyone with 3 digs and lower were employees of valve, I know of 2 2digs that were bought off employees...

when steam launched all west coast had priority, all 5 digs and lower originated on the west coast...if you see a low dig and it says he/she lives on the east coast, chances are he bought it off a west coast player.

I'm on the east coast and I has right there trying to register when valve switched over from WON to Steam. And I got a 6 dig.

I'm only working with what was said in the competitive community..when CAL was still active you could see the evidence by looking at teams steam ids from the west and comparing them to the east.

Slightly right. When the servers went up for the transfer, they were located in Seattle. So when the masses flooded for the update, the closest people got theirs first due to the connection. Almost all of the old west coast teams were low 4 digits back then, but it was just because they outpinged and got the switch quicker.

Also Garret, Kano didn't always live in FL.
