Post Root Canal
Anyone had one in their life/recently? I'm scheduled to get one on Wednesday. From what I hear, people are pretty comfortable during the "operation" and the pain that can be felt afterwards is usually similar to the pain felt before.

Seeing as I'm not feeling any pain right now, I'm feeling pretty good about it. Anyone have any guidance or tips to make it more comfortable or anything? I'm getting one on one of my back left molars if it helps at all.

um they suck alot of balls, i was on a business trip to philly from my company and i could spend 70 a day and it would be charged on the company bill so i went a little crazy with the choclate and ate way too many and destroyed my already crappy teeth so they had to fly me back 3 days early so i could get root canal done on one and the drill is really gay. There is very minor pain but holding ur mouth open for like 2 hours is a bitch, esp with this rubber square thing on top of ur mouth i think or that might be my crown. Have fun with it anyway.

I've heard much about Root Canals. Make sure your Dentist isn't incompetant with the anus-thetics.

Mine stabbed my upper lip thrice, and then drilled the centre of my tooth with a frozen pick.

I had an extra tooth growing and by removing it, it damaged my front tooth.

Getting the root canal wasnt that bad...very short and basic...just alot of pushing lol.

Seriously though...
RCT, in most cases, will last an hour or less. I wouldn't go so far as to say they're pleasant... seeing how most dental treatment can't be described that way. I would say they're not as bad as some people make them out to be. You'll probably even fall asleep while they're working on you. It's quite boring and uninteresting. Shame on you for letting it get that way.

What causes you to need a root canal?

I had a root canal last summer. Not too bad pain wise. During the "operation" I had so much nitrous that I was essentially impaired, and afterwards the Tylenol meant for horses did the trick quite nicely. After the procedure, try and get a lot of sleep and stay away from and kind of food that will be sticky and or too brittle as the tooth and area will be sensitive for a while. Soups, breads, and pasta are great. And obviously gum or caramel, and hard things like chips are pretty touchy at first. Give it a couple weeks to heal up completely, but you'll be feeling pretty much normal the next day.

I have a cavity so deep that it's close to exposing the nerve, and they can't fill my cavity without potentially doing ... to the nerve.

Wow how does a cavity stay hidden long enough to get that close to the root?

That's gotta blow. Enjoy yourself.

I know how you get a root canal, you gotta kill a few people first. Then get locked up in a pen where you never see the light of day, and pay a doc 20 mentho cool to give your eyes a shinejob. or something. Then they give you the root canal.
