Jesus. Dude gets a kick ass new machine, and people wanna tell him how bad a choice he's made. Real nice, pecker puffers. I have 3 machines. 2 of them are Alienwares, and 1 is a cheaper, partially self-constructed job. The cheaper one is nice, no doubt. But the Alienwares are F*CKING kick ass.

Pay no attention to these jealous fucks, HHB. I have 2 Alienware machines and it took me 2.5 years to break one. Alienware is the way to go if you can afford one. Wait until you see the inside of it. The attention to detail is nothing short of amazing. You will love it.

After breaking it 2.5 years later, they're replacing the parts because I bought the 3 year warranty. If you have the chance, get the extra warranty. Pay for it yourself if you need to. It's nice to enter a java chat with someone, do the troubleshooting with them, and if it needs service they'll give you a link to a Fed-Ex pre-paid label to ship your shit to them for repair. Boo-ya!

1. Alienware Vid cooling system's.....no shit...best thing out there for any gaming pc
2. Alienware optical mouse.....don't ask me....cause I don't inderstand it....but this mouse tracks perfectly every time....never a mistake....never a glitch.....beautiful!

i get my parts from 2 local pc shops so i get discounts and a line of credit so i give back to the independant shop owner rather than the big companys even though they still get there chunck of the change at least the little guy gets some of the action also....

and greenman yes u can get a video cooling system for your case its available for about 130 bux and that also includes liquid cooling your cpu also :/

I think the real debate here is "pre-built" systems versus "do-it-yourself" systems. Not really "Alienware vs. my personal machine building skeelz".

There's two primary disadvantages to building your own vs buying pre-built.

1. You have to build it yourself

2. You don't have a "total package" warranty. You might have individual warranties on the items you buy, but it's nice to say "hey dude, I'm packing this F*CKER in a box and sending it to you. Fix it and send it back."

There's one BIG advantage to do-it-yourself PCs.

You'll always save money if you do-it-yourself. Sometimes significant money can be saved. It'll also be the best damned system you've ever had (just because it feels good to put it all together yourself and have it actually WORK). You will always get the most hardware for your dollar if you shop around and pick-up the best deals on each component individually.

For those of us with busy schedules, and if you're extremely selfish with your free-time like me, pre-built, warranty covered systems are the way to go. I don't have time to F*CK with my systems when they break. I could if I wanted to, because I have done it many times in the past, but I would rather not.

If you've made the decision to go pre-built, you have a lot of options out there for large, professional, reputable companies to buy from. Dell, Gateway, Alienware, E-machines, Falcon Northwest, HP, Voodoo PC, and a few other large companies.

You have your bargain machines; Dell, Gateway, HP, and E-Machines. I would only recommend E-Machines or Dell in that category. HP and Gateway are pretty much the same as either of the other two, but the support isn't there, and the pricing isn't as good. Remember, we're talking about bargain machines here. If money is the only thing that matters, Dell and E-Machines have you covered. Best Buy has a great warranty program on E-Machines, so do frequent back-ups!! When it takes a shit on you (and it WILL eventually take a shit on you) just take it back to Best Buy and swap it for a new one, restore your data to the new one and POOF.

Dell has a great reputation as a home PC provider, and I used to hate them. We use Dell exclusively at work, and I've come to admire and respect the level of service we get from them, and the stability of the systems. I got a Dell for my mother-in-law over a year ago, and she's able to use it without much complication, and no failures. They're just getting into the gaming system market, though. They're now starting to build high performance gaming systems. I'm not sure if I would put them in the same category as the real performers just yet.

Now for the big boys. The high-dollar, high-end gaming system builders. By far the biggest and most popular name is Alienware. Especially since they partnered-up with Best Buy about 2 years ago. Now,... you can get prettier and fancier and more expensive machines from Falcon Northwest, Voodoo PC, and a couple of others, but how much more are you really getting for 1.5 times the money? Not much. Better quality paint job? Gimme a break. You can't do better than Alienware when you're looking to step into the high-end, pre-manufactured gaming systems. You just can't. They have the looks, the raw matierials, and the support systems in place to be the best-in-class in that industry, and I believe they are.

There's a third arena that I won't spend a lot of time talking about, and that's the "kit" market. You know, where you buy 6 or 7 components of your system in an economical BOX of stuff. Then you have to assemble it yourself, install your OS, and take full responsibility of it yourself too. Those have the same downfalls as do-it-yourself from scratch, but you can sometimes save even MORE money by buying a box of goods instead of one-at-a-time.

How's that for beating the F*CK out of that dead horse?
