Post subject:  Video Card

Ok so im looking for a new video card i have a meh system really.

Processor: AMD Phenom 9550 Quad Core 2.2 Ghz
Ram: 4gig DDR 2
HDD: 1 Tera Sata
Motherboard: Gigabyte S series M68M-S2P
OS: Win 7 64bit
(edit)Power supply: 750 Watt

I know i need to update my ram but the mobo they gave me when it went out had only 2 slots for ram and not 3 >< so i do have an extra 2gig layn around the house. I would like to upgrade my mobo to a DDR 3 ram system and get DDR 3 ram soon but wouldnt that mean id need to update my processor also? Anyways i need a new vid card i currently have a GeForce 9300 GE and it cannot run the game im wanting with out being MAJOR lag :( I've reset all the settings on the game to lowest quality and still laggn like a mofo i have cable internets and im wired not wireless (I can play WoW highest settings fine with none to little lag) so i do have a bit extra cash and was wondering on some vidcards would be good for my system that i can get but im not all to sure about vid cards and requirements for them. So i would like some help please :D

As long as the mobo you buy is also an AM3 you will be able to use your current CPU as AMD is usually really good about how far back the backward compatibility goes on similar chipsets. You are fine on RAM for the moment, and what you might want to do is wait for the AM3+ boards to show up because they are both backward compatible AND will be able to use the new chips AMD is putting out soon.

Do you want to go ATI or nVidia for your video card, and what's your price range for the card?

All $100 and lower Video Cards on Newegg Sorted By User Rating

Video Card Performance Benchmark Ratings

I'm not in the market for new computer equipment and haven't been for years due to my nomadic nature. If anyone wants to give the rundown on these products, by all means.

It looks like the Radeon 5670 is the best card on that list, but you might want to spend more time looking at them.

I found just what you need:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-graphics-card,2521.html

Tom's Hardware is as legit as it gets. This page has links for price ranges and the best cards as-of January this year, so prices will have gone down.

You want either one of these:

or one of those 9800 GT's:

Easily your best bet is get a used 5770, no joke the best at that price. Or wait till the 6xxx series comes out for ATi that should drive prices on the 5xxx series down a tad.

ok thx bleep and now I got a question :) these were at my local bestbuy cause I just wanted to see what they had.
gforce gts 250

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product

radeon hd 5450

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product

the gforce one at bestbuy is by a company called PNY? O.o never heard of them but newegg is cheaper than bestbuy so I'll get it off them if these are good.

Post subject:  Re: Video Card

PNY makes really good nVidia cards umm the GTS 250 is actually still a good performer tbh. The 5450....ur kidding right?? The GTS 250 is like 10 of those the GTS 250 compares to the Radeon HD 5750 so its a major major major jump from a 5450. But for the price spend 10 bucks more than the GTS 250 and get a 5770, just saying, its a superior card. Don't worry about the PNY thing though they are very good cards.

Here's what tomshardware has to say about 5770 though :P (yes i ♥ 5770's they OC like mad and Xfire awesomely for such a awesome price)

Code:
At $145, nothing compares with the Radeon HD 5770, and it offers a worthwhile upgrade beyond the cheaper Radeon HD 5750. Not even the more expensive GeForce GTX 460 can cop an easy win, as Nvidia's mid-range champion bears a significantly higher price to match its superior performance. This card continues to offer impressive performance for its moderate asking price.
