so my work computer was being gay today and now allowing me to create new user accounts. so a guy i work with said it had something to do with me being a domain user. so being super smart we took the computer off the domain... and here inlies my problem being a domain user i did not have a local account and only relized this as the computer was restarting. and did i mentian my boss forgot the administrator password? so now im stuck looking at a winXP login screen with no idea what the password is. and the guest account doesnt work either. I know where i use to work we had something called ERD Commander that would let us pass the login screen to reset the passwords, but do any of you guys know a good (Free) program or something i can get to fix this problem? |

I'd try the XP boot disk first because I seem to remember there being a default Administrator account that is enabled even if its not shown, but can be affirmatively disabled by policy settings. But maybe you've already tried that. For local accounts, you can use a linux boot disk to reset the password: http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/ Thats a pretty simple command line tool that has worked for me numerous times. You can also use a linux boot disk to decrypt the encrypted password hashes and then try running the hashes against Rainbow Tables: http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/ (This takes a while and is not even guaranteed to work if you have a strong password -- only recommended if you need to know the acct password and cannot reset it) |

I mean, there probably is a windows way out there, but I learned of those two ways and stopped caring. |
