You can go with anything higher than an 8800GT on the nVidia side, or a 3870 for ATI and have 100+ depending on what settings you want to use. If you are trying to use a really high res, anything over 1280*1024 and 16x AA/AF and not have to worry about upgrading for a while, go with a GTX260/280 or higher depending on money or 4870/4890 or higher.

best bang for your buck in what price range?? what games are you trying to play?? If you want to only play CSS and thats the extent of your gaming then do as spyda suggests above; personally I would recommend going to a directX 11 card because anything else is obsolete. The Radeon HD 5770 is definitely a competent card but personally I would wait till the GTX 460 1GB version is more readily available and got that instead because 1. its nVidia 2. it competes with, and in certain tests beats, the radeon hd 5830 and hd 5850

The only problem with the 400+ series of nVidia is they run SO F*CKING hot and use SO much power that it's scary compared to ATI. If I was running water cooled with a 1000W PSU I'd go for it, but otherwise I'll be going ATI when the time comes.

My 260 is running at 47c and never really goes higher than 50c...they don't get hot enough to do any damage, they're made to be that way. Your best bet is to go with a 9800GTX...that'll do what you need to and then some and if you get the one with a blower on it then you're good to go.

I was talking about the 400 series being hot..

That is F*CKING insane! I don't really want my video card on the border of boiling water while playing a game. I'm nVidia all the way, but unless you get some kind of extra cooling, stock isn't going to cut it. But then again, if you are spending a couple hundred on a video card, you probably aren't just building a family/work computer and are probably going with a decent cooling system.

i really wanted a vid card that would handle css well and have the capability to run games like call of duty, and battlefield bad company2 fairly well, i was hoping not to pay anymore that 300 for a vid card.

Look at the GTX 460 man, its running cooler than the 5770! Definitely recommend a GTX 460 over a Radeon HD 5770 any day. Anything like a GTX 470 or GTX 480 id say wait out till they come out with better cooling and the GTX 475/485
