 Windows Help
So because of a large number of viruses and my computer just generally running like shit I have decided to reload or reinstall windows. I have saved all my important info like pics and vids and such to a disk. All other programs I can reinstall online. I have had the computer for 3 years and its just so bogged down with shit, so its time.
Is there anything I should expect? I will be using the disc that came with the computer and have printed off instructions on how to reinstall just in case.
When this is complete will I be starting fresh like when first bought the computer?
I know I'll have to spend some time downloading windows updates.

I'd look into saving your Internet bookmarks in case you have a lot saved up, those are a bitch to recall. Depending on how you bought the computer you'll probably need to reinstall your software that came with it initially. Like buying a Compaq will already have MS Word or Mcafee installed but after you reinstall Windows, the only things on there will be the essentials.
Usually the steps I take when reinstalling everything is Browser updates->vidcard updates->windows updates->anti-virus install->program(s) install and like 20 restarts.

Yeah, other than the 20 updates and restarts, be sure to completely reformat the drive to eliminate ALL traces of previous programs and truly start from scratch.

Yes...after my hacker attack, it took me SEVERAL days to reformat each individual harddrive (I had 2 installed)...so yah...it's going to be a lengthy process...hope to see you back soon!

Well...mine was special. I had two harddrives installed, and I don't know which one was compromised...so I had to format one drive, then install windows on the newly formatted harddrive, uninstall windows from the other harddrive then format the one I just deleted everything from....it was lengthy....

From the looks of it I should be able to reformat with the OS disk in and reinstall windows in the matter of an hour or so. Should be easier than I thought. Last time this happened I just bought a new computer.

You might want to scan your pics and vids to make sure those didn't "catch" or have a virus. If you don't, you're just wasting your time! Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_38

And don't forget to send me all of your porn.
Reformatting takes a while but not a few days unless you're Joe and a complete retard.

lmao. Depends on the size, speed, and number of harddrives you have. I just have one 300 gb and that took about 2 hours just to prepare for the OS install. Creating a partition or whatever they call it.

I can see if you were formatting a server farm, it would take days.
It doesn't take days to format. A few hours is the most it'll ever get unless you live in your parents basement and data mine your neighbors via their wireless connection you're leeching. Then you'd have enough hard drives to look like a server farm. You'd also be a virgin. But oddly enough, you wouldn't be Joe.

80G hard drive only took 30 minutes.
So far all is well, still have some problems with my drivers for my ethernet plug, its not reading my modem, modem works with usb but its slower.
My F*CKING internet company is a pile of shit. They offer F-Secure for an anti-virus for free but they won't let me re-download it. I'm giong to just go with avast and spybot. Screw em.

Avast is pretty much the best one out there. Hell, I talk to some companies that use it on their servers.
:D

What kind of motherboard do you have? Chipset, manufacturer, etc.

Bawy, donechoo take that valley girl tone with me.
Start> Control Panel> System> Hardware> Device Manager
Find out the network adapter.
You should be able to download the drivers from their site.
It'll probably be Intel that you'll need to look for though.

Wish I seen this earlier.. When I reformatted my shitty HP, I had to go to their online support even though I got it like 3-4 years ago, and ask them for the chipset driver because it wouldn't read the same stuff you said, plus sound and video cards..

Not valley girl tone, just normal come to bed and snuggle tone.
Tried that already, not sure if I did it the right way but I suppose I'll have to continue to install the next disc that came from dell. I assumed that it had more programs dealing with just Dell crap that I don't need than actuall hardware drivers but apearently I have to use the disc anyway. Was going to try and do without it but I don't want my modem running USB. Guy I work with said chances are the driver is on the extra disc and that I would have to go though and delete all of dell's bullshit programs. Its the disk that also has the user manual and a program like windows that lets you "experiance" exciting dell products.
