| Post subject: | Invalid page fault while trying to run anything in steam. |
Hey guys, I've been trying to get back to playing some CS, but there's something pretty severe holding me back. I haven't played CS for at least a year now, and it worked fine the last time I played. Not so much as of now though. Everytime when I would join a game, the game would load half-way and crash with the dreaded "This Program Has Performed an Illegal Operation and will be shut-down." So I asked the error message to give me more details, and it would say something like "Steam has caused a invalid page fault while trying to access msimg32.dll." Okay, fine. I closed that, and bam. Steam hits me another error, which is exactly the same, except this time, it's "Steam has caused a invalid page fault while trying to access kernel32.dll." After that, my entire system would be pretty much crippled, and I'd have to restart my computer. I have windows 98 SE as my OS, and I've got a PIII Hewlett Packard Pavillion with a 64MB Nvidia GE Force PCI video card. HD space shouldn't be an issue either; I currently have nearly 11 GIGs of HD space (pathetic as it may sounds) out of 18 GIGs. Anybody have any ideas on what I should do? To me it sounds like it could have something to do with memories, but I've never had problems like this before, so I'm kinda confused here. Should I reinstall steam and try it again? Maybe replace those .DLLs with virigin copies of those? Please help. |

Reinstall yes, and if you have any antivirus, I'd run it too, just in case. |

Not only would I suggest reinstall and an anti-virus scan with some such program as AVG Free 7.1, but I would also suggest that you buy a new computer, because that one is older/slower than mine, and mine runs like crap on CZ. (1.3 Ghz P4, ATI RADEON X800XL 256MB, 768MB RDRAM) Then again, my system might just be the biggest POS in the world that runs at like 1/4 of it's potential, which I'm sure Windows XP has something to do with. |

Thx for the help guys. I'm going to do as suggested, and hopefully report back with some good news. |
