This is perhaps one of the biggest arguments I've ever seen...And after seeing the aftermath of everything, I just hope that you heed my advice.

Rule #1: Turn "Standalone GPS" off. This is not necessary unless you want to use SPOKEN turn by turn navigation, not to be confused with looking up where the closes McDonalds is. If it's really that important to you, then make a widget on one of your home screens. You can disable this by going to Settings > Location or Location and Security > Uncheck Standalone GPS. To add a widget, touch and hold on your home screen, find widgets, then choose GPS or Standalone GPS.

Rule #2: Task managers. YOU DO NOT NEED THEM. Your phone will place the application into a dormant mode when you back out. However, it is recommended to press the "back" button several times until you are out of the application (except your browser) to make sure you are closing it down properly. Task managers are nice for closing specific applications or apps that are force closing. Example: I have a task manager on my android devices, I use it to close NFL mobile when I am done and for apps that are acting abnormally.

If you have a task manager set to kill your apps to "save battery life" you are actually consuming more battery and can cause intermittent issues with your device afterwards. Think of android like a big mansion, with 100 rooms. When you see an app running that you know you have not opened, it does not mean that it is truly running. All Android has done is gone and unlocked the door and possibly propped the door open for ease of access. When you kill EVERYTHING then android goes in and locks every door in the mansion, shuts down the lights, kicks you out of the mansion and locks the door. Then within about 3-5 seconds it scrambles to reopen most of the apps that you closed and eventually, overtime they end up opening again.

Rule #3: Charging your phone. It is recommended that every 2-3 weeks you let your phone die, then charge it to full battery life before using it again. This will ensure your battery remains healthy. It is not recommended that you charger your phone every 1-2 hours like I do. Do not plug your phone into a wall at an angle, this could damage the charging port and prevent the current from getting to the battery in the correct manner.

Rule #4: Juice Defender Battery Saver. This is an application that you can obtain from the market, it's free. Once you download and install the app it will have 2 tabs at the top; About and Status. Tap on status, tap on enable. The balanced mode works fine. This application will manage your settings automatically based on the state of your phone. Example: If the screen is off, then the app shuts down pretty much everything it can except for the ability to receive calls, texts and e-mails/notifications.

Rule #5: DONT PUT YOUR F*$!&#$ PHONE ON THE DASH OF YOUR CAR DURING THE MIDDLE OF THE F&#*$!& SUMMER. Exposure to sunlight and heat can overwhelm the battery and damage it permanently. Example (worst case scenario): Bob is driving down the road in Georgia in the middle of July. Bob places his phone on his car charger and proceeds by placing it on his dashboard. To be smart, Bob decides to run the AC at max temp and max power. Bob is listening to spoken turn by turn navigation and all of a sudden it shuts off. When he goes to turn it on he realizes it's very hot. Not seeing this before he immediately contacts technical support and proceeds to blame them for his misfortune and demands compensation.

Result: Bob does not receive compensation. Bob made a decision to put his phone through one of the most extreme circumstances imaginable to a cell phone. When Bob puts his phone on his car charger, it is drawing power out of the vehicle. When bob accelerates it causes the output of the voltage to fluctuate (sometimes). Bob decides to place his phone in direct sunlight and turn GPS on (can cause phone to heat up). Bob then cranks the AC up and freezes his ass off while his phone nearly melts down.

Think about the sideaffects of what you are doing to your phone before going through with it.

Rule #6: Use Bob's misfortune as a great lesson.

Rule #7: For the love of God, please understand what you are doing on your phone. If you watch a movie on netflix then your phone will die right before Tom Cruise can say "you had me at hello" - thus ruining the movie and my day.

Rule #8: If you are having issues, look for a pattern. 99% of the issues with these phones are fixable as long as I can find a pattern.

I tried using Juice battery saver, but I don't think I configured it correctly. It kept F*CKING up my Pandora radio when the screed turned off. I just got fed the F*CK up and uninstalled it.

if you are going to be streaming music then you need to go in and disable juice defender. Juice defender doesnt realize that you're streaming music, just realizes that your screen has gone out and shuts down some connections.

Keep it on your phone just disable when streaming music =)

I just say get a phone thats worth a shit.

I use my phone all day long, listening to music at work(streaming from pandora most of the time), reading textbooks, posting on n00bfest on occasion, and trolling youtube every chance i get. Rarely do i worry about task manager(maybe every 2-4 hours ill kill everything). After 8 hours of continuous use, I have about 50% battery life, maybe i have an epic battery, or my phone consumes little power, but I dont see why battery problems exist on Android phones.

Too annoying/I'm too lazy. They should patch it so you can set Juice defender to automatically disable itself if it sees a given app running.

tip: if you're using your smartphone for web browsing ensure that the flash is not loaded automatically. It should be a setting in the browser. Example for Opera: Settings -> Advanced -> Adobe Flash: select "Click to play"
