With the release of BF3 and my need to rape some kids faces in extreme fashion, Im going to be looking at a computer upgrade, after I return from paintball of course.

Im looking for suggestions for parts. I need the full workup including Win 7. the only things that won't be changed will be my HDD for now.

Im not looking for top o the line atm, but just below might be nice. my price range will probably be at the max range of 2k. Im looking for solid suggestions. im thinking about doing SLI vid cards with an intel chipset.

Yeah yeah yeah its the lazy way to recommend you a build but the reason why I post this snuggle is because you get to see the actual results if you built this comp matching their build. You will get to see their benchmarks and review of it. I can list you other options as well such as just SLI GTX 570s over 580s. Also you can find cheaper windows 7 prices around, for example if I hadn't bought myself a copy of Win 7 from my University, I could snag you a copy for $15 bucks. It'd be the x64 bit ultimate version. So you may want to look around so you don't have to pay the $180. I could maybe find you a person here that's willing to let me use their ID to get you a copy of it. Lemme kno

All suggestions look pretty good to me but I'll offer my opinions...any of them would be a good choice, BUT:

I don't know if I'd pay $150+ for an Asrock motherboard. They've always kind of been a "secondary" brand kind of like Jetway, Foxconn (I know they're big, but they're more focused on OEM stuff and not aftermarket, high end whatnots), Abit, etc. I'd look into an MSI, Gigabyte, or Asus. These three have been dominating the market for the last year to two and pretty much any board they offer that suits your needs is an excellent choice.

Looking at Chris's build I wouldn't spend $326 for an HD6950...those can be had for Under $250 USD. I would say go up to an HD 6970 at that cost, but honestly there's not much of a performance increase between the two except and super high resolutions (like 2650x1600).

Stayyy awayyy from the power supply on Clorox's build and look at Corsair, Mushkin, PCPnC, and even Seasonic has come a long way and is among the top competitors now [see the Tom's Hardware link]. While Cooler Master makes excellent heatsinks and cases, that's what they should stick to. When their first 1200W Silent Pro [Gold] came out their DC quality was shit but This was last year when they came out. Also, the fan was pretty loud at full load.

ASRock has done fantastically with these new motherboards, easily beating out ASUS in many reviews. I had the same opinion until I would find them at the top of every motherboard roundup on review sites. Also, the 6950 I picked is usually $280 and it's 2GB not 1GB like the one you posted. Even more importantly, is the fact is that this is one of the few ones you can unlock to be a 6970 safely, and it's one of the best cooled and overclocked ones on the market.

Don't get an Asus mobo. They're plagued with unstable (and poorly coded) bios and cold boot issues.

jesus christ, cyberpowerpc has amazing rigs for ~1200 that will run anything you want just fine.

Intel and nvidia generally have higher benchmarks afaik. They're also more true to actual card capability than amd is.

In terms of CPU yeah, GPU your mistaken hooker. They're identical on the GPU market really just comes down to personal and motherboard preference.

what gman said, Ive known for years since I got my x2 phenom that AMD went to shit and intel surpassed them by a large margin in terms of quality and speed. Chris Ill pm you in a bit I wanna talk logistics.

Yeah. Unfortunately the days have changed and many people have turned to Intel. AMD is still the option for a lower cost build, but what you'll find is that AMD generally stays about a generation behind Intel - especially with the launch of Bulldozer. In practically every benchmark, it loses to Sandy Bridge and even to Nehalem chips on occasion...

I miss the old AMD back in the days of the Tbird and Barton :(
