Post Dual Harddrive Question?
Alright...I'm just asking now, so I can get an answer and be done with it before I get home. My last desktop fried its motherboard, so I had to get a new one...but I have a LOT of stuff on that harddrive that I want to keep (pictures, programs, etc), so I'm going to hook up dual harddrives in my new computer. I'm just wondering if there's anything special I'm going to have to do, or do I just have to hook up the other one, along with the one that's already installed in the new computer. The one in my new computer is a 200GB HD, and the one I have a lot of info on is an 80 GB HD. That shouldnt matter, should it? Any kind of input would be helpful.

no, it wont matter, just make sure ur new motherboard has a raid controller and look up how to set up the raid that allows u to use both hard drives, (not the one that copies all the info onto both harddrives), ok, that shuld be enough info, if not post again

O and ur motherboard should have a raid controller, most of the newer ones do! (GET AN NVIDIA NFORCE4 MOBO!!!!)

Alright...kinda new question, same subject. I installed the secondary harddrive with no problems...everything seems to work decently, so far. BUT, I cannot access my old "My Documents" portion because it says "access denied". Is there any way I can fix this?? I still have some old stuff in there that I wanna get out.

Umm....let's see:

Yes...full administrator privileges
Yes...everything else seems to work
No...it's an Emachines T6540, not custom built
Yes...I can access the "My Documents" on the new drive
No...I deleted the "Windows" folder off the old hard drive already, but that was after I tried accessing the documents
Raid set up? I have no idea bout.

Yeah I have this same problem a lot (I switch hard drives a lot). Ill post the site I found with the method for fixing it as soon as I re-find it...

EDIT:
Its rather complicated if you havnt done it before but make sure you print these and then follow the instructions. (You have to print because you have to restart computer in safe mode.)

P.S. I did it wrong the first couple of times I tried it but the important part is that you have to:

"6. Click OK, and then reapply the permissions and security settings that you want for the folder and its contents."

Which means you edit the permissions so your real account (not the one called "administator") can access it.)
